Imad Mustafa - Syr. Ambassador in DC is a Real Person

Imad Mustafa, Syria's Ambassador to the US has a "Weblog of a Syrian Diplomat in America: The journal of the envoy of Syria to the USA." It is the real thing. It is not a political blog, but it is very human. Full of culture and a tribute to his many friends - among them are Sami Moubayed, Ibrahim Hamidi and many more. Well worth visiting.

Dr. Moustafa seems to be a fine credit and representative to the Syrian nation. But he is facing an uphill battle against American public opinion....I wish him the best of luck

Josh--I was wondering if you could post something on Riad Seid. I hear his name mentioned so often, yet I just realized I know next to nothing about him. What are his credentials? Where is he from and approx how old is he? Is he a Baathist?

I think your readers would be interested in hearing more about him and perhaps some other prominent opposition figures in Syria--loved the piece on Riad Al-Turk!

WOW, did Bashar just tell the US to bring it on???? he kinda declared war on half of Lebanon. The shiat just hit the fan.

Although I must say that he has no other choice at this point (other than abdicating) than to whip the people into a fighting frenzy.

coming soon, WWIII:
Syria + Iran + Hizbullah + ???
vs.
US + France + Britain + Israel

just great.

The "Syrian Arafat" as some one named him in his blog spoke today, and pretended to be a hero, in the Arabic language of course. Yet he continues to kiss asses in secret and in English. He refused to release the prisoners calling that a reform the enemies of SYria are pushing for to help Israel that he and his father continue to "fight". One must wonder when they ever fought Israel, and what they did for 35 years to fight that thing they are obssessed to talk about, in Arabic of course!

Imad Mustafa is a disgrace to himself. How can he live with his lies and promises when he knows that he is lieing? Didn't he say in April that coming past June, there will be no prisoner left in Syria's jails? Didn;pt he say that he feels ashamed that there was prisoners even if there was only one?

Or, people now are of Josh calibre, they care not about the integrity and the honour of those they place themslves or are placed in positions of power?

The old days seem to have passed to the grave already: No man in power seems to have that integrity thing anymore, and people who call themselves "scholars" do not care about these attributes any more!

Humanity is damned!

One thing that Bashar said is very true: people no longer care about evidence. Now 90% of people accuse Syria of being the culprit, regardless of the appalling lack of evidence so far.

Next Up: Economic Sanctions

President Bashar talked, He admit he is slow, he was trembling, shaking, and looked worried, he looked weak, he is saying no to multiple parties, at this time, no to send the officials to Lebanon, for Mehlis to investigate them, they are obviously afraid of being arrested there, his speech was long, and defiant, may be angry, also, I agree with him on many issues, however, and I respect him, but he needs to understand that the UN is asking him to cooperate 100%, and that Mehlis is given superpower, by the UN. refusing to send the official to Lebanon, meens another resolution, with smart sanctions, he is depending on Russia,to veto that, if he depends on Arab countries, then he is in illusion,
none is going to help him, it is like Saddam depending on arab reaction, during the first gulf war.if he depends on the syrian people, he needs to remember that the syrian clap fervently to whoever is in power, but they will abandon him if he is in trouble, and talk bad about him if he is gone.
from what I uderstand, the syrian believe that Mehlis report is correct, there are many intelligent syrians, in Syria, who will start talking, soon. they love Syria, they strongly believe in arabic nationality,Islam is in their background, but they are not very religous people, and they believe in free society, but traditionaly the army change things in Syria, and now the army is controled by the Assad family.however I doubt the army will last long if they start shooting at syrians, this will cause civil upheaval.I believe president Bashar has few choices, the sweetest one is bitter, he must support democracy, and must lift the emergency rule, release political prisoners, increase goverments employees salaries, not much time is left, hell will fall on Damascus soon, God forbid.

So Moubayad is the friend of that conspiracy theorist that Syria sent to the UN. No wonder that his analyses smell Baathism.

This is an article from the Post November 9Th. It seems that we are actively seeking an alternative to the current Alawis regime.
Mr. Bayanouni is the one profiled in the article. Mr. Bayanouni is the General Controller of the Syrian branch of the Moslem Brotherhood. It is an undeniable fact that the Brotherhood has a sizeable grass-root support among Arab Sunnis in urban Syria. And also one cannot ignore them as a factor when we look for an alternative that will include handing the power back to the Sunni majority. However one ought to remember the true nature of the Brotherhood and the kind of following it commands.
If someone reads this Article and he is uniformed about Syria and the Brotherhood, he will come with the conclusion that this man is perfect to be a potential replacement. Here he is a man dressed in a western suite and has a nicely trimmed beard and loves Tennis and is talking to his interviewer about pluralism and Democracy. Alas this is not the true face of this organization. This organization true face is more of an angry Moslem branding his copy of the Koran up is the air and hurling firebombs at Churches and vowing to change the law of the land to the Islamic Sharia.
It is true that the Brotherhood been trying to reinvent its image and to present its self as an organization that plays the democratic game, but its true nature and the nature of its followers is still pretty much the same, and that is a fundamentalist Islamo-terrorist entity.
Syria needs change and needs democracy and pluralism but certainly not the kind the Brotherhood offers. The brotherhood is willing for now to play the democratic game knowing fully well that when and if the current regime collapses it will easily gain control over the future government given the void of political activism in Syria after thirty some years of oppression and intimidation by the Assad Stalinist style rule. But what I expect the Brotherhood to do is what Adolf Hitler and his Nazi gang did in the 1930s when they played the game of democracy just long enough to control power.
